July 15, 2016 - Mayor Tom Henry proclaimed today Sister Cities International Day in the City of Fort Wayne.

Sister Cities International Day commemorates 60 years since the Sister Cities International organization was founded as an initiative by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956.

The organization began with a mission to create more community-led global relationships so people of different cultures could appreciate their differences and build partnerships that would lessen the chance of conflicts.

The City of Fort Wayne has sister city partnerships with Taizhou, China; Gera, Germany; Takaoka, Japan; and Plock, Poland. The partnerships include educational, economic, and cultural exchange programs.
