Job Description:

SUMMARY

Working under the direct supervision of the Program Facility Coordinator-Preschool/Youth, Athletic and Special Events, incumbent assists in planning, implementing and evaluating the Tennis Program.  The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinates tennis lessons, leagues, tournaments and special tennis related events;
  • Supervises instructors and tennis staff; assists with staff schedules
  • Completes assigned reports;
  • Recommends other programs and evaluates existing programs;
  • Maintains valid Indiana Driver's License if City vehicle is used.
  • Attends Employee Training and leads June staff orientation;
  • Visits site for resources, assists site staff while sports program is in session, and offers suggestions;
  • Handles day to day staff problems. Fills in as substitute as needed;
  • Relays any unresolved problems to supervisor;
  • Performs duties in accordance with the City’s safety rules and operating regulations and practices;
  • Writes and submits a narrative summary at end of program. Is responsible for site planning for next summer.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The incumbent is responsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management.  If at any time the incumbent is unsure of their role or specific responsibilities, it is the incumbent’s responsibility to refer to their job description and ask for clarification from their supervisor.  Management will work with the incumbent, as needed, to ensure performance expectations are clearly communicated and performance goals are achieved. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises instructors and tennis staff totaling 10 personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school; one or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must have transportation available at all times;
  • Must have good leadership, organizational and communication skills and have good rapport with children ages 18 months – 12 years;
  • Must work until completion of programs.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Valid Indiana Drivers License if City vehicle is used
