Job Description:

SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Supervisor-Aquatics/Athletics/Community Events, the incumbent schedules and coordinates multiple athletic fields, courts, and park facilities within the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department, coordinates community events, and assists Parks and Recreation activities as required. The position also assists with coordinating daily operations of several outdoor municipal aquatic centers, splash pads and their programs. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

INFORMATION/TECHNOLOGY

  • Provides high quality customer service to program and event participants, athletic league organizers, community event organizers, etc.;
  • Responds to facility rental inquiries in a timely manner;
  • Attends departmental training as required;
  • Makes onsite visits to ensure quality of facilities; identifies problems and corrects issues;
  • Resolves concerns and complaints from patrons and staff in a timely and professional manner;
  • Exhibits excellent internal and external communication skills;

MANAGEMENT/OPERATIONS

  • Schedules athletic facilities including soccer fields, ball diamonds, tennis courts, rugby fields, lacrosse fields, pickleball courts, etc.(schools, leagues, tournaments, practice permits, etc.);
  • Schedules all park facilities for park community events organized and conducted by outside organizations, including but not limited to: Freimann Square, tent permits, River Greenway, fund raising events, concessionaires, special events and other park requests;
  • Assists in coordination of outdoor public swimming pool operations;
  • Compiles lists of individuals or groups requesting space for activities and schedules needed facilities;
  • Assumes some of the Supervisor-Athletics/Aquatics/Community Events duties in his/her absence;
  • Assists in special projects as assigned and as needed;
  • Enforces Parks and Recreation Department rules, and adheres to Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, City of Fort Wayne policies and procedures;
  • Relays maintenance and set-up requests to appropriate supervisors;

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public and other City of Fort Wayne employees including Parks Department staff. The incumbent must have the ability to provide excellent customer service in all facets of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from a 4 year college or university in Recreation or related field and/or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of scheduling for multiple facilities.
  • Knowledge of various computer programs including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with using Rec-Trac facility or a similar facility-scheduling program.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel;
  • Communicates with staff, volunteers, employees, participants, and the general public;
  • Knowledge of various athletics;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Communicates in a professional manner with staff, volunteers, employees, participants, and the general public.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS – Required for Continued Employment

  • Valid Indiana Driver's License if a City vehicle is used
