May 4, 2022 - It flows into our lives each day. Streaming from our tap to quench our thirst, helping us run our households and businesses, providing recreation, and used to protect our homes during a fire. Water is essential to our daily lives.

This week is National Water Week. To celebrate our high-quality, good-tasting water, City Utilities will offer a FREE behind-the-scenes look at the Three Rivers Filtration Plant, 415 Baltes Avenue, with free tours on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Tours at the nearly 90-year-old plant begin approximately every 30-minutes and will allow visitors to see the plant in operation, interact with staff members, and enjoy the architecture of the Collegiate Gothic style building. The last tour begins at 11:30 a.m.

The tour involves walking on several surfaces, including gravel, and attendees should not wear open-toe shoes or flip-flops.

The Three Rivers Water Filtration Plant is capable of producing 72 million gallons of water a day.

Worldwide Recognition

Honors for the award-winning water plant pour in year after year. At the 32nd Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition earlier this year, City Utilities made the top 5, finishing 4th in the municipal water category.

In March, we won a regional competition for best tasting water presented by the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water.

City Utilities' water is not only recognized for its good taste. National recognition from the American Water Works Association and the Environmental Protection Agency came in 2021 with the Partnership for Safe Water, the Director's Award for optimizing our water treatment process, and the Director's Award for the quality of our water distribution system.
