Our International Community'€¦

Fort Wayne has an ever-growing, diverse population and it is important that our community provide every opportunity possible to all of its citizens. Our goal, by focusing on this particular project, is to highlight the key agencies and organizations that assist immigrants and refugees as they settle into their new lives. These agencies play a vital role in providing basic necessities as well as training and education opportunities. We want the rest of the nation to see the success results of our newest citizens. By coming together these agencies are providing the skills, training, and essentials needed to help our newest citizens become a part of our amazing community.

Our Growing Trails System'€¦

Fort Wayne was recently recognized as a part of Oprah'€™s Big Give program highlighting how our community came together to “grow” our trails system. Trails play many significant roles, such as supporting a healthy lifestyle, providing alternative transportation, safety, recreation, cleaner environment, and connecting our wonderful neighborhoods. Fort Wayne has numerous organizations that believe in and support our trails. Citizens, government and foundations have all come together to support, create, and promote our Fort Wayne Trails. We want to show the nation how, through community collaboration, we have created a beautiful trails system as well as a plan for continued growth.

Engaging Our Youth'€¦

Engaging our youth is essential to the future of Fort Wayne , and the city has so much to offer its youngest citizens. One of the highlights is the Allen Superior Court Great KIDS Make Great COMMUNITIES (a.k.a. Great KIDS) initiative which believes building Assets in children is a journey that should take place during the developmental years of all children. Great KIDS'€™ mission is to motivate and equip individuals and organizations, to join together in nurturing competent, caring and responsible children and adolescents. Great KIDS is unique in that through community collaboration, adults are trained to work with youth more effectively using the Assets model. In recent years, Great KIDS has also partnered directly with youth to produce the Allen County United Youth Summit, an event designed to engage youth on community issues and empower them to make a difference.
