Job Description:

SUMMARY  

Working under the director of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent - Incumbent assists with and fully documents work instructions for all tasks related to the maintenance of the plants. The incumbent with be instructed on the Utility’s work instruction protocol and will create Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents in the process. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with City and department policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Provides administrative support in developing of SOP documents to detail out plant maintenance procedures;
  • Updates documentation on current procedures based on equipment O&M manuals combined with feedback from plant maintenance employees.
  • Modifies and/or identifies gaps in each plant’s required tools and spare parts as part of an ongoing TPM initiative.
  • Creates new work instructions for maintenance procedures that are not currently documented.
  • Understands how to read technical documents and can follow process and procedures.
  • Performs duties in accordance with City of Fort Wayne safety rules and operating regulations.
  • Observes and provides administrative support in documenting maintenance procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

At least a high school diploma and 1 year of college or trade school.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, risk of radiation, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Employee is frequently exposed to wastewater, septage, and associated pathogens.
