August 24, 2017 - All traffic lanes on Coldwater Road between Coliseum Boulevard and just south of Essex Drive are open this evening, as crews prepare to move into Phase II of the Coldwater improvement project.

On Monday, August 28, crews will begin Phase II, which runs from Essex Drive to Washington Center Road. Traffic will be re-directed to the inside lanes in each direction while crews work on the outside lanes between Essex and Washington Center. Motorists should expect travel delays during these restrictions.

The Coldwater improvement project is replacing the road surface, enhancing safety for pedestrians and motorists, improving storm drainage and adding to the area aesthetics, with trees and landscaping.

For motorists the improvements include new left turn lanes with better lines-of-sight for drivers.   Pedestrian features include the addition of crosswalk safety signals at four intersections and refuge islands at the midpoint of these crossings. Trees will adorn the median and new gutter lines, along with additional green space, will assist with stormwater management.

After the base layer, curb and sidewalk are completed on Phase II there will be temporary restrictions while final paving takes place on the entire stretch of Coldwater between Washington Center and Coliseum. That work will take place in October. The project represents an investment of $4.165 million. Brooks Construction is performing the work, which is scheduled for completion in November of this year.

Approximately 27,000 vehicles use Coldwater Road daily.
