October 2, 2017 - Chief Steve Reed welcomed seven lateral officers to the Fort Wayne Police Department. The seven officers, six males and one female will today begin their abbreviated training at the Public Safety Academy.

Five of these officers come from departments within the State of Indiana. The other two officers are from outside of the state. The first officer is from the Fayetteville North Carolina Police Department and the second from the Dekalb County Georgia Police Department. All seven lateral officers bring several combined years of law enforcement experience to our department.

“I appreciate and know firsthand the advantages and effectiveness of having these experienced officers soon patrolling our streets” stated Chief Reed.

“Public safety is a top priority in the City of Fort Wayne as we strive to be the best and safest community possible,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “We’re encouraged to have several lateral officers committed to being part of the Fort Wayne Police Department. Their expertise and professionalism will assist in the tremendous work that our current officers perform each day to serve and protect all of us.”
