October 24, 2018 - Residents are encouraged to be on mail-watch this week as the “It’s a New Day” personalized postcards, containing specific information about their trash and recycling pick-up, will hit mailboxes.  The blue, green and white cards are color coded for each residential property address, and contain the pick-up day as well as the pick-up week for recycling collection.

While only about 47% of the City will have their collection day change, all residents will receive a postcard, even if their day is not changing.  The card is personalized for each residential property address and has information on pick-up day and the week for recycling collection.

The new schedule begins the week of Monday, November 5, 2018. Until then residents will remain on the same collection schedule.

Earlier this month, the Mayor’s Working Group on Garbage and Recycling, made up of neighborhood leaders/residents and City of Fort Wayne staff, announced   new collection days to streamline the collection process and improve garbage and recycling service. The Working Group’s number one priority was to significantly decrease the number of misses occurring each week. The Working Group moved forward with the plan to make collection routes more efficient, improving upon the current maps that have trucks crisscrossing the City multiple times a day. The route map is now consolidated into geographic areas to improve efficiencies, assist with collection during periods of worker shortages, and improve quality control by having all supervisors in one area each day of the week.

As an added convenience residents can also visit the webpage MyNewTrashDay.com to use an interactive map that will allow them to enter their address and show them the new day and the current day.
