March 28, 2019 - Mayor Tom Henry today welcomed John Konchar as a guest to the Mayor’s office and proclaimed Thursday, March 28 as John Konchar Day in the City of Fort Wayne.

Konchar has been a tremendous representative of Purdue Fort Wayne through athletics and academics. In addition, he’s achieved milestones accomplished by a select few in the history of college basketball.

John Konchar highlights:

*First player in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history to reach 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists, and 200 steals in a career

*One of 109 players in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history to reach 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career

*All-Summit League First Team in 2015-16; 2016-17; 2017-18; 2018-19

*Purdue Fort Wayne men’s basketball career leader in points and rebounds

*Earned a bachelor’s degree in informational technology and is pursuing a master’s degree in occupational leadership

“John Konchar has been an outstanding student athlete and citizen during his time at Purdue Fort Wayne. I wanted to publically recognize John on his unique accomplishments and wish him the very best in the future,” said Mayor Henry. “Under Coach Jon Coffman’s leadership, the successful seasons the Mastodons basketball program has experienced in recent years speaks volumes about the positive impact they continue to have on Fort Wayne.”

Konchar was joined by his parents, coaches, teammates, other Purdue Fort Wayne student-athletes, Purdue Fort Wayne Chancellor’s office, and City of Fort Wayne employees for the special recognition ceremony.
