April 28, 2022 - In conjunction with the Great American Cleanup, residents can bring their grass clippings, brush, twigs/branches, leaves and garden waste to City Utilities’ Biosolids Handling Facility at 6202 Lake Avenue, on Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The drop-off is free for residents of Allen County but is not for commercial landscape/lawn or other businesses.
Residents may unload loose material from a truck bed or waste in biodegradable paper bags. Biosolids will not take root balls with soil attached, gravel, topsoil, and construction debris will not be accepted. Plastic bags are also not acceptable for drop-off.
City Utilities’ Biosolids Handling Facility processes leaves, yard waste and residuals from Fort Wayne’s Water Filtration and Water Pollution Control Plants and turns them into a nutrient-rich soil amendment.
The facility also grinds logs and tree branches to create mulch. Both products are available for free to residents who load the product into their vehicles themselves. There is a fee if City Utilities’ employees load the product. The product is excellent for flower beds and home gardens.
