December 19, 2023 – Greater Indiana Clean Cities, Inc. (Greater Indiana) presented the City of Fort Wayne’s Public Works Division with the Best Achievement – Electric award at their 2023 Annual Awards Reception. Each year, Alternative Fuel Transportation Leaders are recognized for their outstanding contributions to advancing the organization’s mission to advance alternative, domestic-fueled transportation, including energy-efficient technologies across all sectors in Indiana.
In 2020, the City of Fort Wayne won $90,000 in funding through the Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund Committee. The grant helped fund the installation of 27 Level 2 Charging Stations throughout the City. Locations include the Allen County Public Library, Memorial Coliseum, Downtown Civic Center Garage, Skyline Garage at Ash Skyline Plaza, three Meijer store locations, Jefferson Pointe shopping center, Foster Park, Berry Street, and Wayne Street Parking. The charging stations are part of a multi-tier EV infrastructure project that encourages the adoption of electric vehicles, leading to lower greenhouse gas emissions in Indiana.
“The Public Works Division continues to be leaders in innovation and the implementation of proactive efforts that benefit our community,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “The City of Fort Wayne is honored to receive this award as we work each day to meet the needs of residents, neighborhoods, and businesses.”
