June 24, 2024 - Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control would like to warn pet owners of potential scammers, once again; this first incident occurred in October 2023. The scammers are portraying themselves as employees from the shelter and disguising their number as the shelter’s number.

Individuals who have posted on various social media, Pawboost, Craigslist, Nextdoor, etc., that their pet is missing have been contacted advising their pet needs medical attention and that they need to pay various amounts for their pet to be treated.

FWACC cannot treat personally owned pets for a medical emergency and would only be able to assist with transporting their injured pets to their private veterinarian for services or to the Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital.  FWACC would not request payment over the phone for medical services.

If you are missing your pet, FWACC would like to remind individuals to ensure they have completed a lost report with our agency. FWACC encourages all pet owners to update their contact information with the microchip company to assist with the safe return of their pet.  If you have questions regarding your lost pet or the process to help locate your pet, please visit our website at www.fwacc.org under the “I’ve lost a Pet” or call during our phone hours of 9 am-8 pm Monday through Friday at 260-427-1244 option 1.
