Fort Wayne City Utilities is one of 14 drinking water systems in the country to win a 2005 Platinum Award for Sustained Competitiveness from the Association of the Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA).

AMWA recognizes municipal water agencies that are working to meet utility challenges in a competitive environment. AMWA's Platinum Award winners are regarded as some of the country's best-operated water systems.
In June, the American Water Works Association recognized the City with a Director's Award from the Partnership for Safe Water for maintaining safe drinking water. This is the fifth consecutive year the City has won that top honor. The City is known as a Phase III plant for meeting the partnership's water quality standards for five years in a row. The City is working toward being a Phase IV plant. Only three utilities in the country have reached that status.
