Mayor Graham Richard today recognized 14 local companies for helping control industrial wastewater. The companies participate in the City'€™s Industrial Pretreatment Program and had 100% compliance in 2005.

The program requires waste generators to pretreat the waste they produce before it is discharged into the City'€™s wastewater collection system. The program is regulated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and requires vigorous monitoring and reporting.

“High performance partnerships with the private sector are producing positive results for our community,” said Mayor Richard. “By being innovative and committed to water quality, we are more competitive in gaining and retaining jobs.”
