Fort Wayne Mayor Graham Richard will deliver the opening keynote address from 9:10-10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1 as part of the Killer App Conference and Expo. The first of its kind conference is being held at the Grand Wayne Center in downtown Fort Wayne today through Wednesday.

Mayor Richard will discuss how Fort Wayne is a leader in the technology movement to provide better services to residents and businesses. Mayor Richard will highlight several local case studies showing how applications for high speed Internet improve services for housing, the environment, healthcare, and education.

“This is a great opportunity to demonstrate how Fort Wayne is working to build a better city to compete in the global economy,” said Mayor Richard. “Our efforts will help gain and retain jobs and improve the quality of life in our community.”

Several nationally-recognized speakers are also featured at the conference.
*Andres Duany of Duany Plater-Zyberk is a leader of the New Urbanism, an international movement that seeks to end suburban sprawl and urban disinvestment. Duany will lead a New Urbanism and City Planning Workshop from 4:30-6 p.m. today.
*Thomas Tauke, Executive Vice President of Verizon Communications will deliver the luncheon keynote speech from 12:15-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1.
*Ray Kurzweil, best selling author, inventor and entrepreneur, will present an evening keynote address from 5:15-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1.

The Killer App Conference and Expo also features a free Community Night from 5-9 p.m. today. The event is designed for individuals and families that want to enjoy an evening downtown and learn about the latest technology applications that are changing the way we live, work and communicate.
