January 26, 2021 - The City of Fort Wayne is offering assistance to qualified homeowners who cannot afford to have their furnace, air conditioning, or roof replaced. The Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services announced today that it will begin accepting applications for the zero interest loan program Monday, Feb. 1.

Qualified applicants must own their home, it must be their primary residence and the home must be located within City limits. Applicants must also have a household income at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income, or $56,900 for a family of four. 

January 24, 2021-The Southeast Area Partnership is collaborating with the City of Fort Wayne’s Planning & Policy Department to bring new investment to the southeast quadrant and they are asking for input from area residents.

People are encouraged to take a short survey regarding several placemaking proposals supporting the Southeast Strategy Update.  The proposals and survey are available online at www.southeaststrategy.org.

Input from the public will help the City of Fort Wayne and Southeast Area Partnership prioritize projects for possible implementation this year. 

January 21, 2021 - Mayor Tom Henry today announced Citizens Square will reopen to the public on Monday, Jan. 25. Citizens Square has been closed to the public since November 23, 2020 as a precaution to help ensure the safety of the community due to COVID-19. Moving forward, City leaders believe providing public access to Citizens Square can be done in a safe manner.

In addition, a number of other City of Fort Wayne-owned buildings will reopen as well. That includes the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission office, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department office and Parks and Recreation pavilions, community centers, and youth centers. The Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory remains open. Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control’s facility continues to operate under restricted access. 

January 19, 2021 - Mayor Tom Henry, Police Chief Steve Reed and Fire Chief Eric Lahey today provided a public safety recap of 2020 and highlighted plans for 2021 that are designed to continue making the City of Fort Wayne as safe as possible while a pandemic still challenges our city.

Fort Wayne Police Department Data and Highlights from 2020:

*The FWPD’s 65th recruit class graduated, putting 17 new officers on the street.

*The FWPD has completed a total of over 41,331 hours of training in 2020.

*Officers responded to over 137,000 calls for service.

*Overall crime went down 13% from 2019.

*Violent crime was up in 2020 with more homicides in 2020 than in 2019. Homicides had a clearance rate of 81% in 2020.

*Over 700 firearms were seized, with the Gang & Violent Crimes Unit seizing 146 of those illegal firearms during their investigations.

*The Gang & Violent Crimes Unit conducted 22 search warrant/raid operations.

*Additional resources were added to the Homicide Unit to address violent crimes.

*The Downtown Bike Patrol received 3 new electric assist bikes to aid in patrol.

*The new Special Operations building was put into service.

*A new Investigative Operations Center was created to assist with homicide investigations, missing persons and any other critical incidents.

*A new explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robot was received to assist with suspicious packages or known explosives, such as bombs.
