February 15, 2021 - Garbage and recycling collection is expected to move slower this week due to the predicted snow event. Alleys are not plowed by City crews, therefore it is more difficult for trucks to maneuver in those areas. Residents are encouraged to be patient.

February 15, 2021 - The City of Fort Wayne Street Department spent last night and this morning preparing for the weather system predicted to bring a large amount of snow to the area this afternoon, overnight and into Tuesday morning. Sunday, Crews pretreated all main arteries with a de-icing brine substance to reduce the ice formations that can make streets slick during winter events and began plowing roads overnight.

February 10, 2021 - Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry today delivered his 14th State of the City address. The theme for this year’s address was “Fort Wayne – It’s Our Time.” The event was held at the Grand Wayne Center.

Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, the Mayor delivered his speech without an audience in attendance.

Highlights from Mayor Henry’s State of the City address:
Goals and objectives for 2021:
Mayor Henry’s top priority is to ensure the needs of the residents and businesses of Fort Wayne are being met through the COVID-19 pandemic. The City Administration will also focus on economic development opportunities, neighborhood infrastructure improvements, public safety, and parks.

February 11, 2021 - I continue to be concerned about the situation in Myanmar. The recent coup by the military there is a sad and dangerous situation.

Fort Wayne is home to one of the largest Burmese populations in the United States. They have become our friends, neighbors, and productive residents in our community. I grieve with them over the current events in their home country.

I stand with those who are committed to ensuring democracy returns to Myanmar. My hope is that democracy will prevail as we continue to support our local Burmese population.

February 9, 2021 - Residents continued to utilize our trail system more in January than in any previous years. Trail counts reached an all-time high for the month at 29,318. The previous high count for January was in 2017 with 19,024.

The much higher number is partly due to the six infrared trail counters that were added to the network beginning in 2021. Even so, when data from the new cameras was removed from the total, trail usage was still up by over 3,400 with 22,484 for January. The City now has a total of 20 trail use counters.
